All About Judie at Creekside
A QUILT(ing) ADDICT by definition: tr.v. ad·dict·ed, ad·dict·ing, ad·dicts 1. To occupy (oneself) with or involve (oneself) in something habitually or compulsively:
Hi, my name is Judie and I'm a RETIRED quilt maker. My quilt making was an addiction. I just wanted to make one more, then another and another and yet another. Quilts by Judie at Creekside exists solely to sell the over abundance of personally made quilts, wall hangings, cross stitch and other items which were made by an addict for personal use.
Quilts made by Judie at Creekside were custom made in the classic or traditional style for personal use as a learning experience. The personal goal was to learn how to make as many different traditional and classic quilt block patterns as possible and design them into one-of-a-kind quilts. Each and every quilt was made as a personal LEARNING EXPERIENCE. Between 2003 and 2019 approximately 1000 quilts were made without a single one duplicated.
Inspiration for designing the quilts came from a variety of books and magazines, frequenting quilt shops, using the internet and traveling on various quilt shop hops and. of course, what I saw in my minds eye. I used a computer designing program called EQ with versions EQ5, EQ6 and now EQ7 to create most of the quilts made.
Let it be understood, I did not design the quilt block pattern although I might have altered some patterns which made them originals, but for the most part I designed the quilt using established traditional quilt block patterns. The combination of pattern(s) and fabrics used always makes a Creekside quilt one of a kind even though traditional patterns were used.
Sometimes someone else's pattern was used but these were mostly for personal use quilts. Patterns that I purchased while on vacation and touring. I always used someone else's pattern when I choose to incorporate paper piecing into the design. However, most of the appliques used on the quilts/wall hangings are of my own design. If another's pattern is used credit is always given.
Printed fabric panel quilts are not one of a kind, but when and if I have designed a pattern around the panel it is one of a kind.
I tried really hard to create a quality product during my learning experiences however, I will stress that each will probably have a flaw. The points might not meet exactly, a seam might not be EXACTLY 1/4", or exactly straight, heaven forbid, or the top might not lay as flat as it should. That is why the learning process never stops.
The quilts made by Judie at Creekside are are not designed to be heirloom quilts or show stopping quilts. You will not find fancy feather quilting and the like on the quilts I quilted. I used simple loop-tee-loop, or meander quilt stitching. Sometimes I incorporated stars or leaves into the meandering and looping. Boring to some but the quilts I made are UTILITY QUILTS which are meant to be dragged around by a child, warmth for a cold evening, a place to lay down on the beach or park. They are designed to be used as bed covers, wall hangings, table covers, given as loving gifts not wrapped in tissue and put away. In other words loved, used and abused and of course admired.
100% cotton was used 99.9% of the time. Sometimes sparkle fabric was added to a quilt and while it was cotton the sparkle has a different consistency and other fabrics could have been used as an accent. This was usually done in wall hangings that are not normally washed. I love sparkle in quilts and it shows in the choice of background fabrics that I sometimes chose. The batting is either 100% Organic Cotton, 100% cotton, 50% Bamboo 50% cotton or 80% cotton 20% polyester. I preferred the 100% cotton or 50% Bamboo/50% cotton blends over the polyester. The type of batting used will usually be in the description of each article.
Each quilt is ..... CREATED IN OREGON. HOME DESIGNED, and CUSTOM MADE FOR PERSONAL USE OR FUTURE SALES.
Quilts by Judie at Creekside is a private home, and for this reason you can't just drop in but I understand many of you like to feel and touch and see the product so please don't be shy about calling or emailing for an appointment to come take a look. I am always happy to show off the results of being an quilting addict. Beyond quilting I enjoy cross stitch, I am passionate about animals and love all kinds. I love living in the country and detest the city more each day that I live in this beautiful park like setting so close to my favorite place on the planet, the Oregon Coast.
