Judie at Creeksides Creating Space Up Close and Personal

The entire Creekside property is non smoking.
Our beloved Miss Piggy passed away March 12, 2014 so we are pet free.
Miss Piggy is sadly missed throughout the house but most of all in the sewing room where she enjoyed sunbathing.

The Sewing Room or as some like to call it "The Studio". It's small but has many different areas. Please follow me around the room.

I have a wonderful space to sew with lots of light to enjoy my craft. It's a bright happy place for me and I'm sure this happy feeling transfers to the quilts. Nothing is better than walking into the room smelling the fabrics with a cup of coffee to add to the aroma of the room. ONLY quilters and sewers can relate to that statement. It just makes one feel good. My own aromatherapy.
The sewing room is narrow but has ample room for my many facets of sewing.

I have sliding doors which allow me to step out onto the front deck during nice weather and even on most days, rain or shine, cold or warm I open the door for a little bit to let the fresh air in.
The Design Wall

This is my design wall. It's really a great space for placing finished blocks and quilt tops. My hubby added the quilt hanger (custom made by him) above the design wall so I could hang the finished quilt instead of pinning it on the wall. If you have the room create one for yourself believe me you'll love it.
The quilt hanging is one I call Hawaiian Bears. The pattern was purchased in Sitka, Alaska when our cruise ship stopped in their port. The sample quilt in the shop had the bears made from plaid and check fabric which resembled lumberjack shirts. Well, my home is decorated in a tropical flair so I dug out my tropical fabrics and made the bear appliques from that. The border is a selection of each of the bear fabrics. The backing (which isn't shown) is a fabric which can only be purchased in Sitka and has almost the same colors in it that the front does. Unless you look really close you'd think the fabric was tropical. LOVE IT!!!

The Fabric Collection Storage Space, Quilt Label Embroidery Space & Music Space
My fabric collection. My hubby made both of the white shelving units to fit the space I wanted. I even have space for my little stereo so I listen to music often My favorites are country, gospel, easy listening or classical music.
The only space I had to put my Steam Press is on the rolling cart. I use it often, not in quilting, but I do actually iron my clothes on it.
The little Brother LB6800 is set up for doing embroidery of quilt labels.

Main Sewing Area, Mini Ironing Space and The Cross Stitch Floss (DMC) Collection Space

I'm an avid cross stitcher so it's great to have my DMC floss collection at the ready. Not that it's used all of the time but it's easy to get to when I need it. The shelf above holds an assortment of cross stitch supplies and my notebooks which have pictures and details of every cross stitch project I've ever done.
This my main sewing area. The design wall is right behind my back. And although the picture is hard to see I can look out the sliding glass doors to see who is coming and going.
I have a small ironing space set up next to my sewing area but I have a large board left over from the way the sewing room was arranged before and when I have large items to iron I just set the board on the cutting bench and iron away.

The Main Sewing Space

The main piecing sewing machine. It's just like the one I use for quilt embroidery but I liked the machine so well I bought two so I'd have the one set up for embroidery all the time and the other one could be set down into the sewing table.
I am so fortunate to have a hubby that can build almost anything and when I got the new machine the old table didn't fit it so we went to Home Depot and purchased a pre-made counter top and he adapted it to fit my machine and now I have wonderful new sewing surface.

Computer/Printer Space

Again that amazing hubby created a computer/printer space with sliding shelves for my "office" space which hides away in my sewing table.

The Cutting Area, Media Area and Information Storage Area

This is the cutting area. The area above the cutting table is a fabulous place for my TV which isn't connected to cable or DISH so it's just for watching NETFLIX or VHS or DVD. I'm really a fan of old black and white movies, the musicals and Blondie & Dagwood and the Ma & Pa Kettle series and of course, Charlie Chan. Oh my, I guess I could go on forever.
The notebooks on the top shelf contain information for every quilt I've made since 2005. Also on the top shelf are general sewing books and related information.
I have more thread storage space against the wall and the unit my husband made to hold the thread also has slots in it to hold my most used rulers.
The BabyLock serger sits at the end of the cutting table ready for use.

This is a Brother Quilter 15 mid arm quilting machine. It is mounted on a Dream Frame. It is only 3' x 5' and doesn't take up much room. It is new in the sewing room. I bought it in February 2017 and haven't even plugged it in. There is absolutely no training, other than poor YouTube videos. The disc that came with it leaves out a lot of details like how to secure the quilt to the frame. DUH, just a minor thing.
The Bulletin Board (Idea) Space, Craft Supplies Storage Space

There is the bulletin board area for ideas. And like most bulletin boards it gets so full you can't see the ideas.
The containers above the bulletin board hold a lot of miscellaneous stuff. Buttons, tape, Velcro, trim, webbing, marbles, zippers. And there are patterns up there as well.

This is what the space looks like when entering the door.

One of the bedrooms was converted into a quilt storage area. They are hidden away from the light and dust on a shelving unit which is covered with a quilt. No, I didn't make that quilt, it's a cheap Made in China quilt, pretty but cheap. The sewing machine in this room, which is a Singer Treadle, belonged to my grandmother. The china cabinet was a freebie thanks to our mailman Andy and is excellent for additional storage space. The Sunbonnet Lady quilt on the right was a $20.00 find at a flea market. Judging from the fabrics it was made in the 1950's or maybe earlier. The girls dresses are made using Barkcloth. It is in pristine condition.
